Formula 500s Western Australia
Juniors Begin!
For the first time this season the Junior Formula 500’s will hit the track, and what better way is there to start than a road trip to the Geraldton City Speedway for round one of the Roadline Civil Contractors Junior West Coast Series, proudly presented by Precise Suspensions & Automotive!
A solid seven car field has nominated for the show and it is anyone’s guess as to who will race away with opening night glory.
Max Lang (Max Lang Racing) came home with a wet sail in 2024/25, but it still wasn’t quite enough to net him the Junior West Coast Series with Todd Pages claiming those honours. Max however was not off the podium in the last five series shows, and would record a total of seven feature wins across the season. With plenty of work done to the #2 machine in the off season, young Max will be hoping to pick up right where he left off.
Long time rival Raff Frisina (RF Motorsport) is also back in the field and after starting last seasons strongly and with a total of eight podium finishes, consistency was a strong point. The #3 machine always looks immaculate and the team is sure to be a real threat everytime they hit the track, starting this weekend at Geraldton.
Leah Heeps (Leah Heeps Motorsport) came on in leaps and bounds last season, plenty of heat wins and even an epic maiden feature win the highlights of her season. With experience now to her advantage, and with a renewed focus on racing and raising funds for charity, Heeps is all set for a career best season.
After starting late last season, Mason Whitehead (Whitehead Racing) was able to contest four of the Junior West Coast rounds and came home a respectable sixth overall. A heat win and two podiums simply served to make mason hungrier for success and he could well trouble the podium at each meeting.
Deegan Wood (Woodys Racing) also had a later start to the season, but was able to come away with a total of three podium finishes in his rookie year. Now more familiar with the car, and after having cut some practice laps a few weeks ago, Wood has shaken the car down and will be hopeful of starting the season off strong in Geraldton.
Making his Junior West Coast Series debut this weekend will be son of a gun Tyler Pigdon (Pigdon Race Team). Running just a couple of times at the Motorplex this season, Pigdon is going full on into the Formula 500’s this season and with great equipment and plenty of experience in Outlaw Karts, he could well be one to watch!
The final element in this weekend’s field is another rookie, with former Junior Sedan competitor and another son of a gun in Brax Condren (Condren Motorsport) making his debut. This will be Brax’s maiden race meeting in a Junior Formula 500, and some practice laps at the Motorplex recently will give him enough confidence to strap in and take on his more experienced foes.
Racing kicks off this Saturday night at Geraldton Speedway.
