Formula 500s Western Australia
Who will be Crowned?
One of the biggest events on the Formula 500 calendar is the annual King of Kwinana and this Saturday night's event at the Perth Motorplex should be nothing but a highlight for the pocket rockets!
The only other division to feature alongside Sprintcars at every iteration of the King of Wings, this weekend will mark the twenty sixth running of the event and with plenty wanting to make their mark on history, the action should be intense.
With defending champion Shane Andersson (Team Ando Racing) unable to make the show, it opens the door for a new champion to be crowned, but there are a couple in this weekend's field that are certainly no stranger to royalty!
Steven Ellement (Steven Ellement Motorsport) has been the benchmark of competition for a long time now and coming into the show as a six-time champion, he will be looking to bounce back from a tough results at Albany last weekend as he fights for lucky #7 this weekend.
Two other former Kings in the field are Matt Brown (Matt Brown Racing/@Pope Racing), himself a four-time winner and Glenn Carstairs, a three-time victor. Brown had a tough start to the season but was able to bounce back and race through the field to finish four at the Powerpalooza event, while Carstairs returned to action last weekend at Albany and walked away with a podium finish, form he will be hopeful of continuing on Saturday.
Cody Turacchio (Cody Turacchio Motorsports) has won nearly everything over the last couple of seasons but one trophy missing from his cabinet is the King of Kwinana.
Coming into the show with three feature race wins on the trot this season alone, the defending Track Champion will be keen to fill that empty spot with a win and grab that crown for himself.
State Champion Rhys Cumming'(RJC Motorsport) will be looking for a consistent run throughout the whole night so he doesn't need to fight his way through the field come main event time, and with plenty of speed, he could well show us all exactly why he is WA Champ.
Brendon Marshman (Opal Finance F500 Racing) was on the podium in Albany and would love to finish this weekend as King, and with plenty of speed now that he has a handle on his updated machine, he would well achieve that goal.
Mark House, who returned to racing after some time out of the seat and finished a credible seventh at Powerpalooza, will also be on the hunt.
David Sinagra (Sinagra Motorsport) is one who has been consistently running towards the front of the pack in recent seasons.
Fresh off a sixth at the Motorplex, a podium result in Geraldton and fourth last weekend in Albany, Sinagra is primed to fire and could well be crowned for the first time come the end of the main event.
Add in a whole host of other competitors including exciting youngsters Logan Harris (LSJ Motorsports), Todd Pages (Pages Motorsport) and Isaac Arnold (Cornerstone Racing), plus Albany local Shane Devonshire (Chasing the Track) who got a confidence boosting dash win last weekend amongst others, and we have everything needed for a night of royal action!
