Turacchio does it again!
After a dominant 2024/25, Cody Turacchio (Cody Turacchio Motorsports) has continued his fine form into the new season, claiming the first feature of 2025/26 at the Perth Motorplex.
A solid eighteen car field would front for the night, with Turacchio and longtime rival Steven Ellement (Steven Ellement Motorsport) each winning a heat, which was enough to park them both on the front for the fifteen-lap feature.
The first attempt at a start in the main event saw Turacchio launch away after contact with fellow front row starter Ellement, the yellows back out quickly and not a moment too soon as Darren Rodwell was left spinning at a rate of knots in turn two in a separate incident.
The field reformed and the front row would this time hit the line together, but unfortunately a number of cars would come together and spin to a stop in turn one.
Attempt three saw the front row again hit the line together and this time Turacchio got the nose in front and began to pull away from Ellement, with Brendon Marshman (Opal Finance F500 Racing) sitting in third as Mark House and WA Champion Rhys Cumming (RJC Motorsport) fought it out for fourth.
With a third of the race completed Turacchio was already out ahead by nearly two and a half seconds and approaching lapped traffic, Ellement and Marshman running lonely races behind him while Matt Brown (Matt Brown Racing/@Pope Racing) came from nowhere, having started tenth and moved into fourth.
Five laps to go and the order was unchanged, cars spreading out right across the track and Turacchio the length of the straight ahead as he fought through a pack of cars.
It made little difference though and Turacchio would go on to start the new season much the same way he finished the last, claiming the feature race win, his seventh at the venue.
He would defeat Ellement and Marshman, with Brown and Cumming rounding out the top five.
The next event for the Formula 500’s will be next week when the West Coast Series kicks off at Geraldton Speedway.
